After years of working with families experiencing separation and divorce, it became clear that traditional counselling services fell short of addressing some of the harmful effects of this type of loss. In some cases, traditional methods were actually causing more harm than good.
Specialized training to address communication difficulties and evidence-based programming are the pillars of intervention for the whole family. Early intervention is preventative, but unfortunately many families end up entrenched in high conflict court battles resulting in long term emotional, psychological harm to both children and parents, not to mention the addition of financial stress.
Incentive Counselling has adapted the New Ways for Families® program to meet the unique needs of children and parents.
New Ways for Families® is a structured program designed by Bill Eddy from the High Conflict Institute and is offered world wide. The programs are proven to have significant positive outcomes for separating and divorcing couples and most importantly, the children who may be caught in the middle.
The intent of the program is to reduce the impact of separation/divorce on children and teach parents to effectively negotiate. Improved communication prevents excess reliance on courts and litigation. This reduces the financial burden of divorce, prevents an adversarial relationship, and creates a healthier environment for your child/ren.
Our program has been adapted to ensure quality program delivery and has an added component aimed to reduce the harmful impacts of divorce on children. Studies show that it is not separation that harms children, but excess conflict that can follow separation. Protecting your children is a critical aspect of our programs.
